Tips to apply during your online shopping with Colors

Shopping online comes with many advantages, but it also stands some risks. We share with you some tips to help you avoid bad experiences and potential fraud.

Avoid Public Networks:

First and foremost, if you're going to make any purchase, do it preferably at home or using your mobile data. Making purchases on public Wi-Fi such as in cafes or any other public places is not recommended since your information could take the risk of being stolen. This is because more people are connected to the same network making your information vulnerable to an attack.

Avoid Buying from unknown websites:

We know it is obvious advice, but especially during sale periods (Black Friday for example), some cybercriminals create fraudulent websites. Their intention is to obtain your personal and banking information or even make you pay for a product you will never receive. Never trust too easily and it is better to decide for established and reputable businesses.

Always check for HTTPS:

Ensure that the pages you visit start with HTTPS and display a padlock icon. The "S" indicates that the page has security protocols to encrypt your browsing data.

Check the bottom of a page:

The bottom of all the websites you visit (known as "footer") should always contain links to the business's privacy policy, purchase conditions, payment policies, shipping, return, warranty, among others. It's important to analyze that the business has this documentation.

Check the business's reputation:

Even if it is an official business, it is never too much to check social media, comments or opinions from other buyers and do a bit of research. This will help you avoid bad experiences and make a more informed purchase.

Use digital cards for online shopping:

Digital cards offered by financial institutions are a great option when making online purchases. This is because they are for one-time use, preventing the data from being used for other charges. In this case, it is advisable to use the official mobile application of your bank.

Do not click on suspicious links:

Never click on strange links or open suspicious-looking attachments. These links and files are usually received via email or text message and may contain malicious software that can steal your data.

Activate two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security. As the name suggests, an extra step is required in the login process for your social networks and digital platforms. This way, you will keep your information and personal data more secure.
